XL wiki assists students who join INDEXLAB and wish to enhance their expertise in algorithmic programming and digital manufacturing. It is developed by interns at Indexlab, under the guidance of the laboratory's researchers.

Safety First! Who's controlling whom?

Essential checklist for new starters:

1. Be comfortable: do nothing that makes you uncomfortable. If in doubt, ask for help from the RADLR.
2. At your own risk: every tool or item in the lab, even simple ones like a cutter, can be lethal. Use them at your own risk, be prudent.
3. Be yourself: do not let others lead you into dangerous situations.
4. Robots are your friends, but do not trust them: robots do not stop; keep your distance and avoid getting crushed.
5. Man versus machines: always supervise CNC machines, and don't trust them completely to operate independently. Stay vigilant, actively monitor their performance, and be prepared to intervene at the first sign of malfunction or unexpected behavior.
6. Red button: if you sense a danger during machine operation, press the red button.
7. Fire!: many materials are flammable, especially wood. Assess the situation carefully, and if you see a fire, extinguish it using the fire extinguishers.
8. Better smart than macho: avoid lifting heavy loads beyond your capacity, always use the proper technique for lifting weights.
9. PPE when necessary: always use personal protective equipment (PPE) whenever there is the need. PPE such as gloves, safety glasses, earplugs, dust or gas masks, helmets, safety shoes, etc. Ask for help from the RADLR.
10. Stay organized: keeping the lab organized helps prevent accidents and increases efficiency. Let’s help each other keep it tidy!
