Bio-inspired innovation

The Bio-Inspired Innovation course is designed to explore and apply principles of nature-inspired innovation. The main objective is to understand how biological processes and evolutionary solutions can inspire and drive technological and design innovation. Throughout the course, students have the opportunity to thoroughly examine strategies employed by nature to solve complex problems and apply these concepts to the design of new products, processes, and systems.

The lectures cover a wide range of topics, from fundamental biological principles to practical applications in engineering, technology, and design. In particular, students immerse themselves in bio-inspired case studies, practical exercises, and projects that allow them to develop a critical appreciation for the innovative potential derived from the natural world.

The course is delivered asynchronously to provide flexibility for students and is structured into two milestones: one more analytical and another more imaginative and project-oriented. The ultimate goal is the production of a comprehensive report, integrating text and images, documenting the learning journey and the application of bio-inspired principles.

We are excited to explore together the creative and innovative potential that nature can offer in our efforts to address complex challenges and develop sustainable solutions for the future.
